Critical Fixes

Critical fixes address essential issues in courses that directly impact student success and require immediate resolution. These fixes are limited to critical problems that are necessary to maintain the integrity of the learning experience. Critical fixes do not cover individual preferences or non-essential adjustments; only issues that prevent students from fully engaging with and progressing in the course will be addressed. Please review the types of critical issues to ensure it qualifies before submitting a ticket. IDD reserves the right to review and determine whether a fix is classified as critical.

What is a Critical Fix?

  • Content Availability/Access
    • Textbook or text edition unavailable: The required textbook or assigned text edition is no longer accessible to students.
    • Critical content missing: Key lessons, assignments, or materials essential for achieving learning objectives are absent.
    • Syllabus incorrect: The syllabus contains outdated or incorrect information regarding course policies, schedule, or assignments.
    • Course access issues: Students or faculty are unable to access or navigate key course components due to unpublished, missing, locked, or hidden content.
  • Links, Media, and Files
    • Broken link(s) to critical content: Links to key resources are non-functional.
    • Non-functional media: Videos, audio, or interactive content are broken or inaccessible.
    • File/document missing: Files/downloads that are referenced in lessons, assignments, or discussions are missing or unavailable.
  • Assessment and Grading
    • Errors in assessment items: Incorrect answers are marked as correct in quizzes or exams (e.g., “The sky is __,” with the correct answer marked as “green”).
    • Critical typo or language error: Significant language mistakes that mislead students (e.g., assigning “15 pages” instead of “1.5 pages”).
    • Due dates incorrect: Assignment due dates that are incorrect or contradict another reference.
    • Rubric incorrect: Point values are incorrect, or rubric contains duplicated cells.
    • Gradebook issues: Graded items that should be ungraded, duplicate entries, or missing graded items affecting student progress.
    • Turnitin error: Turnitin is missing when required or included when it shouldn’t be. Note: ITs can only fix items in the 003 (settings can’t be changed once students submit). Requests need to be reported to Student Support.
  • Technology and Integration
    • Course technology unavailable: Products like Connect, MyLab, or MindTap are no longer accessible or supported.
    • LTI integration issue: Problems with external tools or services integrated into the course, preventing access or functionality.
  • Accreditation and Standards
    • Accreditation concerns: Course design or content problems that threaten specialized accreditation (e.g. changes to increase NCLEX scores).
    • Industry standards change: Shifts in industry standards that require updates to ensure the course remains aligned with accreditation requirements.
  • Student-specific (live course only)
    • Inability to submit assignments or participate in discussions: Students face technical issues preventing assignment submissions or discussion participation.
