Brightcove

Brightcove serves as our primary video hosting platform, where we upload the majority of our final deliverable video files.

Access and Login

We access Brightcove via web browser: https://signin.brightcove.com/

We use a shared username and password; please reach out to Patrick Wirth or Nick Meyer for access details.

Encoding

Videos uploaded to Brightcove should be encoded using Adobe Media Encoder’s H.264 > YouTube presets, selecting the preset that matches your project resolution.

Uploading

To access the upload module, click the cloud icon on the left. Set Ingest Profile to Multiplatform Extended with MP4 (8 Renditions). Use Auto-captioning only if no other caption file will be provided, as we generally create captions by other methods.

Folders and tags can be defined here or later as well. Please refer to the section below for guidance on their usage.

...

Video Attributes

All uploaded videos are stored in the media module. To access it, click the video camera icon on the left side. You will find a mix of course and marketing videos, as we share Brightcove with the creative team. Please remember that this is a shared space, so it’s essential to collaborate respectfully and be considerate partners.

Clicking an entry will bring you to where you can edit the video’s attributes.

...

Overview

In the Overview area, you can specify the video’s folder, tags, and images. Although there are additional attributes that can be defined, they are not necessary.

...

Folders

Folders are organized by course and should begin with “z_.” This system allows us to easily locate our content at the bottom of the list, as we share this space with the marketing team. Make sure that course codes are labeled following our file naming conventions.

...

Tags

We don’t have a firmly defined taxonomy for tags yet. For now, tag it with the course code, college/school, and its purpose. See examples below.

Images

Choose a visually interesting frame from the video that effectively represents its content for the poster and thumbnail images.

...

Tracks

The Tracks section is where you can upload and manage captions and audio tracks.

...

Captions

All videos must include human-reviewed captions. You can use any of the following methods—or any method of your choice—to create and review captions. Captions files should be in a .srt format

Replace Video

Brightcove enables you to replace an existing entry without changing any of its attributes. This can be done in the Video Files block of the Overview section of the video. For guidance on using this feature, please visit Brightcove’s resource page, Replacing a Video Source File.
